Czech Republic

What can I expect from Czech Republic?

The Czech Republic is a captivating country known for its fairytale-like castles, medieval towns, and rich history. At its heart lies Prague, the “City of a Hundred Spires,” where Gothic architecture, charming cobblestone streets, and a vibrant café culture create an enchanting atmosphere. Beyond the capital, explore Český Krumlov’s picturesque old town, the stunning landscapes of Bohemian Switzerland, or the spa towns of Karlovy Vary. Whether you’re savoring world-famous Czech beer, wandering through centuries-old castles, or hiking in the scenic countryside, the Czech Republic offers a unique blend of history, culture, and adventure.

How to Get There

From the US, direct flights to Václav Havel Airport Prague (PRG) are available from major cities like New York and Chicago via airlines like Delta, American Airlines, and Lufthansa (with layovers in Europe). Travelers from other parts of Europe can easily reach the Czech Republic by train or bus, with excellent connections from Germany, Austria, and Poland.

Currency

The local currency is the Czech koruna (CZK). Credit cards are widely accepted in cities and tourist areas, but carrying cash is recommended for smaller purchases, especially in rural regions. 1 US dollar is approximately equivalent to 23 CZK.

Language

Czech is the official language, but English is commonly spoken in Prague and other tourist areas. Learning a few Czech phrases like “Dobrý den” (Good day) or “Děkuji” (Thank you) can enhance your experience!

Credit Cards & ATMs

Most restaurants, hotels, and shops accept credit cards. ATMs are widely available and offer a convenient way to withdraw local currency.

Plugs

The Czech Republic uses Type E plugs, with a standard voltage of 230V and a frequency of 50Hz. A universal adapter may be required for travelers from the US and UK.

Safety

The Czech Republic is considered a very safe country for travelers, with low crime rates and a welcoming atmosphere. Standard precautions should be taken in crowded areas, especially in Prague’s tourist hotspots, to avoid pickpocketing.

BEST TIME TO VISIT:

The best time to visit the Czech Republic is from May to September when the weather is mild and ideal for exploring.

  • Spring (April–June): Enjoy blooming gardens, fewer tourists, and comfortable temperatures (50–70°F / 10–21°C).
  • Summer (July–August): Peak tourist season with warm weather (70–80°F / 21–27°C). Great for festivals and outdoor dining but expect larger crowds.
  • Autumn (September–October): Cooler temperatures, fewer tourists, and beautiful fall foliage make this a perfect time to visit.
  • Winter (November–March): Cold but magical, with Christmas markets, snowy landscapes, and fewer tourists. Great for experiencing Prague’s festive charm!
