What can I expect from Switzerland?

Switzerland is renowned for its breathtaking landscapes, from majestic Alpine peaks and pristine lakes to charming cities with rich cultural heritage. Expect to experience the perfect blend of natural beauty and modern sophistication. Whether you’re exploring the vibrant city life in Zurich and Geneva, admiring the medieval architecture of Lucerne, or enjoying outdoor adventures in the Swiss Alps, Switzerland offers something for everyone. The country’s reputation for precision, cleanliness, and high quality of life is reflected in its well-preserved traditions and cutting-edge innovations.

How to Get There

From the US, you can fly direct to major Swiss cities such as Zurich (ZRH), Geneva (GVA), and Basel (BSL) on airlines like Swiss International Air Lines, Delta, and American Airlines from hubs like New York (JFK), Los Angeles (LAX), and Chicago (ORD).

Currency: The local currency of Switzerland is the Swiss Franc (CHF). The US dollar is not widely accepted, so it’s best to use local currency. 1 US dollar is approximately equivalent to 0.92 CHF.

Language: Switzerland has four official languages: German, French, Italian, and Romansh. German is widely spoken in the central and northern regions, while French is predominant in the west, Italian in the south, and Romansh in some eastern regions. English is commonly spoken in tourist areas and major cities.

Credit Cards & ATMs: Credit cards are widely accepted at hotels, restaurants, and shops. It’s advisable to carry some cash for smaller purchases. ATMs are readily available throughout the country.

Plugs: The standard voltage is 230 V, and the frequency is 50 Hz. Switzerland uses Type C and J plugs, so bring a universal adapter if needed.

Safety: Switzerland is known for its safety and low crime rate. It’s a very secure destination, but as with any place, it’s wise to stay aware of your surroundings and keep an eye on your belongings.

Best Time to Visit

Switzerland is a year-round destination. Winter (December to March) is ideal for skiing and winter sports in the Alps, while summer (June to September) is perfect for hiking, mountain biking, and enjoying the lakes. Spring and autumn offer milder weather and fewer crowds, making them excellent times for sightseeing and exploring cities.
