Zambia

What can I expect from Zambia?

Zambia is a destination for raw, untamed beauty and unforgettable wildlife experiences. Expect vast national parks, powerful waterfalls, and some of the best safari adventures in Africa. From the thunderous Victoria Falls to serene river cruises on the Zambezi, Zambia offers both adrenaline and peaceful immersion in nature. Whether you’re tracking wildlife in South Luangwa National Park, swimming at Devil’s Pool, or enjoying a sunset safari, Zambia delivers authentic adventure and natural wonder.

How to Get There: From the US, you can fly to Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (LUN) in Lusaka or Harry Mwanga Nkumbula International Airport (LVI) in Livingstone with airlines such as Emirates, Qatar Airways, British Airways, and Ethiopian Airlines, typically with connections through hubs like Doha, Dubai, London, or Addis Ababa.

Currency: The official currency of Zambia is the Zambian Kwacha (ZMW). However, travelers generally do not need to carry local currency, as US dollars are widely accepted in tourist areas, lodges, hotels, and for most activities. Credit cards are also commonly used at major establishments.

Language: English is the official language of Zambia and is widely spoken, especially in cities and tourist areas.

Credit Cards & ATMs: Credit cards are accepted at hotels and larger establishments, but cash is recommended for smaller vendors and remote areas. ATMs are available in major cities.

Plugs: The standard voltage is 230 V, with a frequency of 50 Hz. Zambia uses Type C, D, and G plugs. A universal adapter is recommended.

Safety: Zambia is generally safe for travelers. Exercise normal precautions, especially in crowded areas and when traveling at night.

BEST TIME TO VISIT:

The best time to visit Zambia is during the dry season from May to October, which is ideal for safaris and wildlife viewing. The rainy season runs from November to April, when landscapes are lush but some parks may be less accessible.
