  >  Asia   >  A Jewel of Vietnam’s Coast: The Intercontinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort

Vietnam’s coastal treasures have long been a well-kept secret, but as the world awakens to the wonders of this Southeast Asian gem, few destinations shine brighter than the Intercontinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort. Nestled amidst the lush hills of the Son Tra Peninsula, this luxurious haven offers an exceptional blend of natural beauty, cultural richness, and unparalleled service. Whether you’re curating the perfect family getaway or a romantic escape for your clients, the Intercontinental Danang is a destination that promises not just a vacation, but a transformative experience.

A First Impression to Last a Life-Time

From the moment you arrive at the Intercontinental Danang, it’s clear that this is no ordinary resort. The architectural genius of Bill Bensley, the renowned designer behind the resort, is evident in every corner. Bensley has masterfully fused Vietnamese culture with modern luxury, creating a space that feels both intimate and grand. The resort is perched on a hillside, offering sweeping views of the East Sea from nearly every vantage point. The journey to your room alone is an experience, with the resort’s funicular railway—a charming nod to the French colonial influence in Vietnam—gliding effortlessly up the steep terrain.

Accommodations: a Retreat in Itself

The rooms, suites, and villas at the Intercontinental Danang are a study in opulence and comfort. My husband and I, along with our children, stayed in a Seaside Villa on the Rocks, a two-bedroom marvel perched directly over the ocean. Waking up to the sound of waves gently lapping against the rocks, coupled with the unobstructed views of the sea, set the tone for each day.

The villa, with its private pool and spacious terrace, offered the perfect balance of communal family space and secluded areas for some much-needed downtime. It even boasts a dedicated karaoke room that kept our little ones occupied of hours!  For clients seeking something truly extraordinary, the resort’s Sun Peninsula Residence Villa provides ultimate privacy with its own private bay, ideal for high-profile guests or those looking for an exclusive retreat.

Every room is thoughtfully designed with Vietnamese artistry at its core, from the hand-painted walls to the intricately carved furniture. Yet, modern comforts are never sacrificed. Each room features state-of-the-art technology, including Bose sound systems, complimentary Wi-Fi, and large flat-screen TVs. The attention to detail is impeccable, with plush bedding, expansive bathrooms complete with deep soaking tubs, and the finest L’Occitane amenities.

Club InterContinental: Elevating the Luxury Experience

A new addition to the resort, the Club InterContinental experience offers an enhanced level of luxury and exclusivity. For clients seeking personalized service and added privileges, this is an offering worth highlighting. The Club Lounge provides a serene space with breathtaking views, where guests can enjoy gourmet breakfasts, all-day refreshments, and evening cocktails. Club InterContinental guests also benefit from private check-in and check-out services, ensuring a seamless and stress-free experience from start to finish.

Culinary Delights: A Journey for the Senses

One of the standout features of the Intercontinental Danang is its culinary offerings. As a travel journalist with a passion for food, I can confidently say that this resort sets the bar high. The Dining by the Beach restaurant, where we often had breakfast, served a delightful array of international and local dishes. Freshly baked pastries, exotic fruits, and traditional Vietnamese fare like pho and banh mi were daily staples, ensuring that every palate was satisfied.

For a more refined dining experience, Citron Restaurant is a must-visit. Set high above the resort with sweeping views of the bay, Citron’s signature dishes are a harmonious blend of Vietnamese tradition and contemporary flair. The Bánh Xèo—a crispy Vietnamese pancake—was a family favorite, while my husband couldn’t get enough of the succulent Wagyu beef. The restaurant’s private dining booths, shaped like traditional Vietnamese conical hats, are suspended above the hillside, offering an unforgettable dining experience.

However, the culinary highlight of the resort is La Maison 1888, the resort’s crown jewel and the first Michelin-star restaurant in Danang. Here, classic French cuisine is given a modern twist, with dishes that are as visually stunning as they are delicious. The sommelier’s recommendations are spot on, enhancing each course perfectly. For clients who are food connoisseurs or simply looking to indulge in a world-class dining experience, La Maison 1888 is a non-negotiable.

Family-Friendly Activities and Entertainment

Traveling with children always comes with its challenges, but the Intercontinental Danang goes above and beyond to ensure that both adults and kids have a memorable stay. The Planet Trekkers Kids’ Club is a godsend for parents. Our children spent hours there, engaged in culturally enriching activities like Vietnamese lantern making and traditional dance classes. The club’s staff are exceptionally attentive, ensuring that the kids are not only entertained but also learning about the local culture.

For family bonding, the resort offers a range of activities, from guided nature walks through the peninsula’s pristine forests to water sports on the private beach. Also on offer are the famous basket boats and traditional Vietnamese fishing, which provide both an educational and fun outing. The resort’s expansive infinity pool with a view that blends seamlessly with the ocean is a perfect alternative for an afternoon of relaxation.

A Glimpse of Wildlife: The Red-Shanked Douc

One of the unexpected highlights of our stay was the opportunity to catch a glimpse of the rare and endangered red-shanked douc, a primate species native to the region. These strikingly colorful monkeys can sometimes be seen in the surrounding forested areas, particularly in the early morning or late afternoon. The resort’s commitment to preserving the natural habitat of these beautiful creatures adds a unique element to the experience, making it a great selling point for nature enthusiasts or families looking to introduce their children to the wonders of wildlife.

Unparalleled Spa and Wellness Experience

No visit to the Intercontinental Danang is complete without indulging in the HARNN Heritage Spa. Set amidst the lush greenery of the resort, the spa is a sanctuary of tranquility. The treatments here are inspired by traditional Vietnamese healing practices, using locally sourced ingredients known for their rejuvenating properties. The spa also offers wellness activities such as yoga and meditation classes, perfect for clients looking to reset and recharge.

Conclusion: A Destination That Sells Itself

The Intercontinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort is not just a place to stay; it’s a destination in itself. Its seamless blend of luxury, culture, and natural beauty makes it an easy sell to clients looking for a truly unique experience. Whether they’re honeymooners seeking romance, families in search of adventure, or high-profile guests needing privacy and exclusivity, this resort caters to all.
